Euroaptieka Pharmacists Visit
the BF-ESSE Manufacturing Facility

The first Manufacturing Insight visit took place at the BF-ESSE production facility in Riga with pharmacists from the Euroaptieka pharmacy network.

The visit was organised as a professional educational session combining a short theoretical introduction with a guided tour of the manufacturing facility and R&D laboratory.
The goal of the visit was simple — to allow pharmacists to observe how food supplements are developed and produced in practice.

The session began with a short introduction explaining the basic structure of supplement manufacturing, including the roles of contract manufacturers, quality systems, and development laboratories.
Participants were introduced to the general production flow, from raw material preparation and formulation development to capsule filling, powder packaging, and final labelling

Theoretical introduction

The session began with a theoretical overview presented by the BF-ESSE team.
During this part of the visit, participants were introduced to the general logic of supplement manufacturing, including:
• how food supplements are developed
• the role of contract manufacturers (CMOs)
• quality systems and traceability in production
• the regulatory framework for supplements in the European Union

The discussion was led by members of the BF-ESSE management and quality teams, providing practical insights into how manufacturing decisions influence product reliability and consistency.

Production facility

Following the introduction, the group visited several areas of the production facility, including:
• raw material preparation and weighing
• mixing and ingredient processing
• capsule production lines
• tablet production equipment
• powder filling and packaging areas
• labelling and batch traceability systems

At each stage, the production team explained how consistency, dosing accuracy, and traceability are maintained during manufacturing.

Sensory session and discussion

At the end of the visit, pharmacists participated in a short sensory session where several powder-based formulations were presented and discussed.
The discussion focused on practical aspects such as flavour perception, solubility, and how product characteristics influence patient experience.
The session concluded with an open discussion between pharmacists and the BF-ESSE team.

Continuing the Manufacturing Insight initiative

This visit marked the first session of the Manufacturing Insight initiative organised in cooperation with the Euroaptieka pharmacy network.

Future sessions will continue to provide pharmacists with an opportunity to observe real manufacturing processes and discuss supplement development directly with specialists involved in production and quality control.
