Building a Certified Organic Supply Chain for Food Supplements

Behind every organic food supplement is a supply chain that must meet the applicable EU organic requirements. From raw material sourcing to final packaging, every step must comply with EU Regulation (EU) 2018/848. At BF-EssE, we manage the manufacturing side of this process end-to-end, helping ensure that production and processing meet BIO requirements under Regulation 2018/848.

Certified Sourcing of Raw Materials

The journey begins with raw materials. Only ingredients backed by valid BIO certificates can enter the organic chain.

At BF-EssE:
  • Every supplier must provide certificates of conformity.
  • All incoming materials are checked for authenticity and compliance.
  • Non-certified materials are strictly segregated to prevent contamination.
  • This helps ensure that your organic supplement starts with a verified foundation.

Tracebility at BF‑EssE

An organic supplement is only as strong as its supply chain.
At BF-EssE, we provide BIO compliance support across the manufacturing scope — from incoming material checks and processing to packaging and batch documentation.
Storage, Segregation, and Traceability

Maintaining integrity after production is just as important:
  • BIO and non-BIO products are stored separately.
  • Our ERP system tracks every batch for full traceability.
  • Products are always linked back to raw material certificates, ensuring transparency for partners and regulators.
Secure Packaging and Labeling

Packaging plays a critical role in organic integrity. At BF-EssE:
  • All packaging for organic supplements is reviewed for the required EU organic labelling elements, including the EU green leaf logo and control body code where applicable
  • Documentation support is provided to prove compliance for audits and exports.
  • Formats include jars, blisters, and single-dose sachets — all can be developed for BIO-labeled projects when the applicable requirements are met.
Controlled Processing and Manufacturing

Processing organic supplements requires careful attention to segregation and sanitation. BF-EssE applies procedures to ensure that:
  • Production lines are cleaned and documented before each BIO batch.
  • Organic and conventional materials are kept separate under defined handling procedures.
  • Equipment, ventilation, and pest control are managed under applicable food safety and organic control procedures.
Why Supply Chain Integrity Matters

For brands, supply chain integrity means:
  • Confidence in passing audits.
  • A clearer route to using organic / BIO claims where the product, documentation, and label meet the applicable requirements.
  • Consumer trust built on documented organic compliance.
  • Access to premium retailers and export markets where organic certification is required or preferred.
  • For consumers, it helps ensure that BIO claims on packaging are real and reliable.
Our certification covers encapsulation, sachet packaging, jar filling, and blistering, making BF-EssE a one-stop organic CMO for projects within the certified scope.
Packaging is more than just the final step — it is where the organic integrity of your supplement becomes visible to consumers, regulators, and retailers. At BF-EssE, we understand that packaging is both a technical and a marketing process. That is why we integrate compliance, design, and logistics into every organic project.
Regulatory Requirements
According to EU Regulation (EU) 2018/848, any product marketed as organic must carry specific labeling elements:
  • The EU green leaf logo must be placed on the front or main visible panel.
  • A control body code (e.g., LV-BIO-XX) must be printed alongside the logo.
  • The place of farming (e.g., “EU Agriculture,” “Non-EU Agriculture,” or mixed) must be stated clearly.
  • At least 95% of the product’s ingredients must be certified organic to use the logo.
Our team reviews packaging artwork submitted by the client before production, helping verify that the mandatory EU organic labeling elements are present — final responsibility for label accuracy and product registration lies with the brand

In the world of organic supplements, a single weak link in the supply chain can put your brand's organic status at risk. That’s why building a transparent, certified, and traceable organic supply chain is not just good practice — it’s a business necessity.
